Menu's attach to an entity place holder you create on a template where you want the menu to appear (you can have more than one menu on a template)
- Create a template to hold the menu entity type.
- Parse the template end define the entity as a menu option
- Create a detailed menu template
- Add a new menu using the ADD MENU option found in the ADMIN. module.
- Attach the menu to the entity defined as a 'menu option'
|
STEP ONE - Create a template where an entity type 'Menu Option is held'
|
| | |
 | The Template on the left contains two Entities The index_news_title is defined as a standard body text entity The index_news_menu is defined as a Menu Option when the template is parsed |
| STEP TWO | |
| | |
| When the Template is parsed assign the entity as a MENU OPTION |
 |
| Instead of accepting the default - standard body text - select Menu Option |
| |
| STEP THREE - Default Menu Template | |
| | |
| Create a 'default menu template' to hold the detailed menu information | | The 'default menu template' is used when a user clicks on the menu list or dropdown menu displayed. | | When you ADD or MANAGE a MENU ITEM summary information about the 'default menu template' is held in the database | | NOTE:- If you attach a search box the information is taken from the information held in these two fields. If you decide not to use the Short Description/2nd heading display in any of your menu lists or detailed menu templates you could use this field to place key words for the search to enable people to find the correct information. | | The Information in the Name and Short Description is used to create the menu list or dropdown display | | | | | Note:- If your using a dropdown display keep the 'Name/1st Menu Heading' brief (30 characters or less, otherwise Fastpage will truncate the length) | | Default Menu Template - holds the detailed information | | When a person clicks on a link from the menu list or Dropdown, the detailed information held in the default menu template attached to the menu item will display. | | | | | When you design a 'default menu template' you can pull across information from the summary information to the detailed template by the use of 'Special Reserved Menu Entities' as you can see from the example above. This enables you to create a template where information is pre loaded when a person clicks on the ADD MENU ITEM button. | | When you ADD a new Menu it will ask you to attach the default menu template |
|
| |
| STEP FOUR - ADD MENU | |
| | |
 | Choose Add a Menu This is where you define the detailed menu template (this is explained in detail later on) |
| | |
| STEP FIVE - Attach the MENU | |
| | |
 | From manage Menu's - select Attach |
|
Find the entity you defined as a menu item and click on the entity to attach the menu to this entity Note:- you can detach and attach to another entity if you make a mistake or you want to relocate the menu If you don't have an entity to attach to you can skip the attach function and select from manage menu's to attach later on - we recommend you establish your main templates 1st then work out how many menu's you require and where you want these to attach to. |
